Mask Mandate Effective September 9, 2021

Dear Elko High School Community,

As of this afternoon, based on the volume of positive COVID-19 cases at EHS and results of disease investigation efforts, the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) has deemed Elko High School to be experiencing an outbreak.

Effective Thursday, September 9, 2021, all students, regardless of vaccination status, must wear face coverings when indoors and when utilizing ECSD transportation. The only exceptions are those students who can produce documentation from a qualified Nevada-licensed medical professional that they are exempt in accordance with subsection three of section seven of Directive 24 or when actively eating and drinking. To the best of our ability, everyone should attempt at least three feet of social distancing in the school.

The Nevada Declaration of Emergency Directive 048 provides these mitigation measures: if local health officials identify a school-wide outbreak of COVID-19 in any school, the administration shall implement a universal face covering policy immediately for all students in the school building where the outbreak occurred until the local health authority determines that the end of the outbreak.

This requirement will be in place for a minimum of 28 calendar days, which is two (2) 14-day infectious cycles. The local health authority may close the outbreak designation, even if there are new cases during the 28-day period. Local health authorities will continually monitor new cases within the Elko County School District to determine if a new case is school or outside related.
