A food service survey of the Owyhee Combined School was conducted on April 15, 2025 by LTJG Andrae Genus, Indian Health Service Office of Environmental Health and Engineering (OEH&E). The area surveyed included the food service area (i.e., kitchen). The purposes of the survey were to evaluate environmental health and safety conditions in accordance with applicable standards and guidelines. The final report detailed findings and recommendations for any needed corrective action. Ms. Dora Sims, Kitchen Manager, was available and participated in the close-out interview.
Genus said, “The survey from this day identified zero (0) findings. All hot food items in the hot holding units were maintained within the appropriate temperature range, and items stored in the walk-in cooler were properly labeled and organized. Additionally, all previous findings from the last survey have been addressed and corrected. The food service area was observed to be clean, orderly, and well maintained. Staff demonstrated a positive and proactive approach in correcting prior deficiencies, contributing to an environment that supports proper food handling practices, sanitation, and overall food safety.”
ECSD Superintendent Clayton Anderson said, “Great work to have zero findings on this visit!” Owyhee Principal Lynn Manning-John said, “Our staff did great!”
Outstanding job performance from the Owyhee Nutrition Services Staff, Dora Sims, Darlene Paiva and Christina Jones. The students and staff are grateful for having such a conscientious and hardworking kitchen staff.
